The new venture Planetary Resources announced on Tuesday plans to mine asteroids for rare earth metals and water. It may sound like an idea that is way out there, but personally I wouldn’t want to bet against this brain trust. The partners in this venture include Eric Anderson and Peter Diamandis, who launched a space tourism business, Larry Page and Eric Schmidt, who run Google, and James Cameron, who changed the way movies are made with Titanic and Avatar.
